About Us
A small, family-run outfitter built on decades of experience in the Minnesota Northwoods.
Our story
Black Bear Hunting started as a family camp in the backwoods of Itasca County. We weren’t trying to build a big operation — we wanted to share a place we loved with hunters who appreciate wild country, hard work, and the chance at a real bear.
Over the years, that camp grew into a small guiding operation. We’ve kept it intentionally small: one camp, a handful of guides, and a limited number of hunters each season. We still run our own bait, check our own cameras, and greet every guest at the door.
Today, we guide hunters from across the country through some of the best black bear habitat in the lower 48. We don’t promise easy. We promise real.

What we believe
Safety
Every hunt starts with a safety briefing, and our guides are trained in first aid and bear-country protocols.
Ethics
We practice fair chase, respect the animal, and follow every Minnesota DNR regulation to the letter.
Personal Attention
Small camp sizes mean you’re not a number. We learn your goals and hunt to match them.
Experience
Our guides have spent decades hunting, tracking, and reading bear behavior in this exact country.
The guides
Our guides are lifelong hunters and trappers who know the country by its ridges, swamps, and bait-site history. They’ve guided archery, rifle, and muzzleloader hunters, and they understand how to read wind, thermals, and bear behavior to put you in the right spot.
When you hunt with us, you’re not buying access to a stand. You’re hunting with people who live here and care about the outcome as much as you do.
